Classics

Hooray!!! finally Amar Chitra Katha have an online shop with international delivery.

Grew up with these comics. Remember buying some from the footpath sellers in preparation for long journeys whether by car, train or bus. Really looked forward to the latest titles, were part of the rhythm of returning to boarding school, or travelling to my grandparents home.

Today cherish the few Amar Chitra Katha comics I have, and till now would wish and fret about how could obtain copies that vividly remember reading in the past.  And now I can, the online shop has a catalogue of every Amar Chitra Katha available, many in Hindi, English, French and other languages.

Love the artwork that accompanies the  stories, especially in historical or mythological epics such as Rukmini and Krishna, Mirabai, Draupadi and Samudra Gupta.

The Birbal series is a great example of how a comic can be factual, witty, contain fabulous illustrations and be thoroughly entertaining.  Other interesting collections include literary classics or the 3 in 1 and 5 in 1 comics.

Also a simple introduction to Indian history for my ten year old daughter, yes they do mention dates and times of historical events. She loves the Jataka and Panchtantra fables.

Lucky me identified some new titles and many older ones I haven’t read yet. For the avid collector can purchase the entire catalogue at once at discounted rates, or like me savour and add selected items at whim.

The hard part is deciding what to order first…
